Week 38 of Fresh Friday Festival, billed as “The Adventure Begins,” asked creators to leave the ordinary world behind for a fantasy realm of castles, enchanted forests, ancient ruins, legendary blades, mystical symbols and epic adventure. The promo art leaned all the way in, with a hooded traveler and his wolf, a sword in the stone and a glowing triangle over the ruins, though the festival was quick to add that this wasn't a trip to Hyrule.

The lineup ranged well beyond the realm. Ione's “Tears of Brass & Bone – The Automaton Blues,” billed as a steampunk synthwave video, stayed closest to it. 

Elsewhere, TMSTRY's “Office Hours” promised six flows and one lesson, NemesisTube reimagined “Gloomy Life” as alternative indie rock in Suno V6, AI Garfunkel went to '90s country with the love song “She's a Little Bit,” and KΛI staged an “Operation Dance Battle.” 

Blegh_ai_music (“Still Not Growing Up”), MaxdeA & Tankekjør (“Drama”), Br33zy the Degenerative AI (“signal decay || the panda trash”), Steve Anderson AI (“The One They Flew Past”) and Roy Thigpen (“On our way home”) rounded out the night.

The two videos that came out on top told very different stories. The audience voted for a quiet, domestic one about being trapped and not being left alone. The FFF team picked a ritual of transformation under the moon.

Viewer's Choice: Detour Soundscape, “Half A Wife”

After the final premiere, the audience votes for its favorite video, and those votes feed the FFF leaderboard. This week the vote went to "Half a Wife," which Detour bills as an emotional cinematic short film. It is Detour Soundscape's ninth Viewer's Choice win, which makes her the artist to beat on the leaderboard.

Her work connects because she consistently puts herself into her music and videos. Her projects aren't simply songs accompanied by visuals. They often feel deeply personal, allowing the audience to see pieces of her own experience inside the characters and stories.

"Half a Wife" comes straight from her own life. 

"Living with pain every day doesn't just affect me," she writes in the video's caption. "It changes plans, changes routines and sometimes changes what being a wife and mum even looks like. There are days when my husband is doing everything. The kids, the house, cooking, washing, looking after me... all of it. He never makes me feel guilty for any of it, and he'll always tell me he doesn't mind. But I do!!!"

"I mind watching him get shattered, I mind needing help with things I never used to think twice about, I mind sitting there watching normal family life happening around me and wishing I could just get up and join in."

The video's central image is a box. 

"The box in this film represents that feeling," she writes. "I can see everything happening around me, I'm still there, I'm still part of it, I just can't always reach it."

Then comes the ending. Her husband doesn't smash the box. He doesn't rescue her. He doesn't magically make everything better. Instead, he climbs inside with her. 

"The ending was really important to me," Detour writes. "Because the person you love can't fix what's happening to you. They can just stay."

[For “Half A Wife,” Detour Soundscape used Suno V6 to create the song, Nano Banana Pro to create the images, and Veo 3 to bring those visuals to life. Everything was then assembled and edited together in CapCut Pro, turning the individual pieces into the finished cinematic video. The result is a deeply personal project where the tools serve the story rather than overshadowing it.

Staff Pick: SpinCreations featuring Morrwyn of House Elarokh, “Waxing Moon”

The FFF team's Staff Pick went to an artist making their first appearance on the FFF stage. 

"Waxing Moon" is a papier-mâché journey through witchcraft, transformation and the celebration of the moon. The song opens with a return: its narrator walks back into a forest where fire once burned across the river stones, carrying a hurt she buried but her body never forgot. Under a rising moon, she refuses the old fight. 

The chorus asks the moon to pull her in and draw the fire out of her bones while the wolves sing. By the second verse she is shedding shame, chains and the name someone else gave her. The bridge carries her into the moonlight and the wild to gather her pieces back together. In the last chorus, one line changes. The wolves no longer sing higher; she rises into her power. The result is a video that feels like a ritual of transformation.

The lyric sheet scripts Morrwyn's vocal to climb with the story. The first verse is marked "quietly determined," and the final chorus is marked for the fullest vocal of the song, "powerful, resonant, never belted." The paper-mâché visual style was created through OpenArt, while Suno prompts were used to help shape the dynamics of the song and guide its progression from the quieter opening into its more powerful moments.
