MusicGen (AudioCraft)
Meta's open research music model, trained on licensed stock music.
MusicGen is Meta's text-to-music model, released in 2023 as part of its open AudioCraft library alongside AudioGen for sound effects and the EnCodec audio codec. It generates instrumental music from text and can follow a hummed or played melody. It was trained on about 20,000 hours of Meta-owned and specifically licensed music, including stock libraries. The code is open, but the model weights are licensed for non-commercial use only, so it's mainly a research and hobbyist tool and a building block for other projects rather than something to release music with.
